Our History
The story of Avicenna Preparatory School began in 2016 with the development of Northwind Education, a consultancy firm specializing in educating immigrants and refugees. Among the services initially offered was a tutoring program that quickly evolved into a full-time K-3 Islamic school which opened it’s door in the fall of 2017 with 15 students.
As community interest grew, enrollment gained momentum and Avicenna became a K-8 school with 54 students enrolled in the 2019-20 school year. The ultimate goal for Avicenna Prep is the addition of a high school that meets the unique needs of our community while maintaining small class sizes and high academic standards.
Our Namesake
Avicenna (Ibn Sina) was an 11th century Persian Muslim philosopher and scientist regarded as one of the most significant physicians, astronomers, thinkers and writers of the Islamic Golden Age. Heralded as the father of modern medicine, Avicenna’s “The Canon of Medicine” continues to influence medical practice around the world and his philosophic works had a decisive impact upon European scholasticism, especially upon famed theologian and philosopher Thomas Aquinas.
Our Values
Unity
In Islam, unity is the natural path to Allah (SWT) and as a school we model and foster unity in everything we do.
Compassion
Allah (SWT) is the most Compassionate and Most Merciful. We repeat these two names in our five daily prayers and we practice them to better ourselves as humans.
Stewardship
To be a steward of Allah’s (SWT) creation is one of the roles of the children of Adam (AS). At our school, raising environmental awareness and teaching good stewardship is part of our essential learning.
Knowledge
Allah (SWT) says in the Qur’an that knowledge is the light that leads the seeker out of the darkness of ignorance and into the light of His Mercy. We believe seeking knowledge should be the existential quest of all our students.
